چکیده

HAN, PAUL W. AND JOHN R. BROBECK. Dejcits of tem@rature regulation in rats with hyfwthalamic lesions. Am. J. Physiol. 200 (4) : 707-7 10. I 96 I .-Temperature regulation was studied in rats with bilateral hypothalamic lesions, by observing body temperature responses to the heat stress of forced exercise, and to exposure to hot or cold environments. Lesions in the preoptic area caused impairment of heat loss mechanisms but no disturbance of regulation against cold. Lesions in the lateral hypothalamic area caused no disturbance of regulation against cold; regulation against heat exposure was also not significantly altered, but the cause of a higher T-cut observed after exercise could not be explained. Lesions in other parts of the hypothalamus, with the exception of the ventromedial nuclei, did not cause changes in the normal pattern of temperature response to forced exercise.

VENTROMEDIAL HYPOTHALAMIC NUCLEI AND FEEDING BEHAVIOR

The role of the ventromedial nuclei of the hypothalamus (VMN) in food behavior was studied in adult male rats, allocated in 3 groups: control, sham and lesioned. Electrolytic lesions were induced stereotaxically (1.2 mA, 15 sec). Results revealed a significant decrease (p<O.05) in body weight (BW) and food intake (FI) in the order of lesioned <sham <control during the fIrst week. However, ...

Subcortical Lesions and Maze Retention in the Rat.

With intracranial electric shock in the posterior hypothalamus as the source of positive reinforcement, eleven rats were trained to run and " count " in an operant version of the Lashley III maze. In seven animals, bilateral lesions were made in anterior medial forebrain bundle regions; in four animals bilateral lesions were made in anterior thalamic and caudate regions. In earlier experiments ...

P 31: Reduce Inflammation and Hypothalamic Disorders in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) and its animal model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), is a chronic inflammatory diseases and degenerative myelin in the CNS. With respect to being the main cause of this disease is unknown; the most common treatments for the disease (MS) with the aim of suppressing harmful inflammatory responses are used. Neuro transmitters having immunosup...

Parabrachial-hypothalamic interactions are required for normal conditioned taste aversions.

Rats with bilateral excitotoxic lesions of the parabrachial nuclei (PBN) fail to acquire a conditioned taste aversion (CTA), yet they retain the ability to express a CTA learned prior to incurring the damage. Rats with bilateral electrolytic lesions of the lateral hypothalamus (LH) also have CTA learning deficits. The PBN have reciprocal neural connections with the LH. This suggests that these ...
